Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt art IT
Professional Development Course for Female Artists
|
Objective
|
Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt art IT is a comprehensive professional training programme for female artists. The one-year course is designed to pass on vital knowledge and develop relevant skills an artist needs to meet the complex challenges that arise when pursuing a freelance artistic career. The aim of the course is to develop individual career strategies, which will enable participants to make informed decisions and act confidently in the art world.
The primary goal of the Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt is to support the participants in their professional development. Tailored to the participants' work, the course offers specific knowledge, effective ways to promote one's work, relevant debates and network building opportunities.
By imparting information essential to an artistic career, the course tries to open up new avenues for the participants and counter a prevailing and sensitive shortcoming of the art world: the marginalisation of female artists. Although a disproportionally high number of art students are female, when it comes to prestigious exhibitions, prizes and appointments women are significantly under-represented. Moreover, to make a living in a field that is constantly changing and expanding, it is crucial to keep up to date with the latest developments.

Course Requirements
|
The Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt art IT is aimed at fine artists who have completed their education and already have gained professional experience as an artist. To take part in the course, the participants should be accomplished early to mid-career artists and be intensely engaged with their own body of work.
The purpose of the course is to fulfil demands by female artists to acquire additional skills, relevant to their profession: the ability to promote one's work, which has increasingly become the responsibility of the artist; and the skills and knowledge needed to meet the challenges of being self-employed, such as an understanding of tax law, copyright law and insurance and time management and financial planning skills.
In addition, by having the participants work closely together, the Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt, forges a strong network, which often lives on long after the course that allows for intellectual debates and offers practical support. This shared forum, which the participants shape themselves, serves to expand their professional lives.
There are 15 places on the course every year. A changing jury, made up of female art historians, art critics and artists, chooses the successful applicants. The course requires applicants to have completed their artistic education. In the case of self-taught artists, applicants must demonstrate adequate relevant professional experience. The applicants will be judged on the standard of their artistic work and how much the course can benefit their professional development (see application).

The Course's Approach
|
The Goldrausch Künstlerinnenprojekt is designed to meet the participants' individual needs and interests. The course's practical and theoretical content, which the artists can in part shape themselves, is geared towards each artist's work. It is integral to the course that the participants show independent initiative, work in teams and are responsible for their own output. As well as being practically orientated, the course's approach is to encourage the participants to examine their own positions and how they go about their work.
The course combines practical exercises on how to publicly promote one's own work with seminars on various aspects of the art world and self-management. By offering insights into the art market, the media and art institutions, the multi-faceted rules of the art world are revealed. In addition, the seminars will also touch on general work practices and regulations.
During the course the participants get to design and produce publications on their artwork, including their own website and catalogue. This is done to, not only, enhance the public profile of their work, but also fine-tune the students' understanding of how to present it to the public. The necessary multimedia skills to create the publications and websites will be taught in seminars by various experts. The annual group exhibition, which is now well established, provides a further opportunity for the students to establish themselves as professional artists. It is combined with practical workshops on PR courses, artist talks and documentation (see also course content).
